My Story

Jill Therriault holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University (NJ) and is currently a Criminalist II with the New Hampshire State Police Forensic Laboratory in Concord, NH.  She started her career in 2004 with the Miami-Dade Police Department Crime Laboratory Bureau in Miami, Florida.  In 2004, Jill was selected by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) as one of 12 students in the National Firearms Examiner Academy (NFEA).  Upon completion of her in-house and NFEA training, Jill spent the next 10 years working as a firearm and toolmark examiner for Miami-Dade County and its environs.  In 2014, Jill accepted a position as a Forensic Science Examiner 2 with the Connecticut Division of Scientific Services.  In addition to unit supervisor duties, she actively worked firearm and toolmark cases and maintained a robust NIBIN program for the state of Connecticut.  Throughout her time with the Connecticut laboratory, Jill has provided guest lectures in the area of firearm and toolmark examination for the law school forensics courses at Quinnipiac University and the University of Connecticut.

After six years in that position, Jill accepted a Criminalist II position with the New Hampshire State Police Forensic Laboratory.  In that capacity, she conducts testing in the areas of firearm and toolmark examination, gunshot residue, serial number restoration, fracture matches, and the examination and identification of footwear and tire track evidence.

Jill joined the Association of Firearm and Tool Mark Examiners (AFTE) in 2005.  She has been an active member participating in numerous committees over the years, including the 2009 Miami Training Seminar Host Committee, the Website Committee, the Headstamp Gallery, the Scientific Advancement Committee, the AFTE Social Media Subcommittee, and is currently the co-chair of the Electronic Resources Committee.  Jill has maintained AFTE certification in Firearm Evidence Examination and Identification since 2009.

Jill has been married since 2011 and has two school-age children.  In her spare time, she can be found crocheting, cross stitching, and creating things that require copious amounts of glitter.
